Gastronomy

Two restaurants at 2,840 m

  • It is also possible to view everything extravagantly.  Indulge in a combination of cake, espresso and glacial ice cream, pasta specialties or a future snack with a three thousand meter view.  Europe’s highest café allows this contrast program at the Pitztal Glacier, at the 2,840 m high Restaurant Kristall.
  • The second restaurant, “Wildspitze”, located in the same building, serves as a particularly good meeting place for ski groups, with its comfortably large sitting booths.  The clubroom here can even be reserved for ca 30 guests by telephoning in advance.

Both mountain top restaurants operate on a self service basis. The Wildspitze is open from the beginning of the autumn ski season until the beginning of May, while the mountain restaurant, Kristal is open daily until 4PM throughout the entire operating season of the Gletcherbahn tramway. It is also possible for us to organize special events for larger travel groups as evening functions at our mountaintop gastronomy.

  • Umbrella Bar “Pitz live” and the sun terrace

The most prominent meeting place with the expansive sun terrace is the Umbrella Bar, “Pitz live”. Order a freshly tapped pilsner, perhaps a little “high proof”or even a refreshing alcohol free beverage.  This spot is perfect for taking a break from skiing instructions, or enjoying a casual round with friends.  Stefan and his umbrella bar team are always ready to serve you until the final run to the base station with the Pitz Express.
  • Right next to the bar is an open air stage where we regularly host musical entertainment program in the springtime for après ski. You can also experience a broadcasted concert of Tyrolean brass bands or a Swiss Guggen Musi. In order to really enjoy the glacial sun, our guests have the possibility of borrowing a lounge chair from the Restaurant Kristall
  • As of spring 2006, a new snow bar has been opened which is well worth visiting.  A real stop for energy is possible here with skis or snowboard.   It’s located directly on the slope before the Mittelbergferner.

Gastronomy at Lake Rifflsee

There are 3 eating possibilities here for excursion guests and skiers
  • The mountain restaurant Rifflsee, direct at the top station of the gondola lift has an elevation of 2,300 m. You can enjoy a spectacular view of the des Grubenkopf trails (2,800m) from the terrace or you can head towards the hight altitude cross country track Rifflsee, which surrounds the lake.
  • A second option is stopping for a break at the Rifflsee Hut. It lies at 2,289 m above sea level and can be reached from the gondola top station and also on a hiking trail.  The renovated hut with a sun terrace is assessable in the winter by way of the Muttenkopf 4-seater chair lift, and a couple curves down slope #2  The Rifflsee Hut belongs to the DAV Section, Frankfurt, and rented to its operator. There is also possible overnight lodging there.
  • The third choice for a stay in the Lake Rifflsee Ski Area is the Taschach Alm. It’s located down on one of the trails (trail #.1 blue), shortly before the turnoff heading for the Gletscherbahn Lift Base Station/Rifflsee Base Station. Some of the characteristics of this lodge include a rustic cabin atmosphere, umbrella bar, plus serving as a meeting point for an evening sledding party, which also serves as a possibility for simple group accommodation. The Taschach Alm is also within walking distance from the parking lot with its own trail.

We wish you a relaxing and pleasurable dining experience in the local restaurants at our Glacier and Lake Rifflsee ski areas.
